Patreon is back!
And another romance fix because I know you're insatiable
Hello Foxes,
This is it. The big announcement I’ve been sitting on for months.
(TL;DR – I’m back on Patreon! Check it out at patreon.com/kelefox or read on to find out how to get your first month free…)
First, some context. You see, I started a Patreon several years ago as a way to share all the bonus material I write. It was fun, but limited. Back then, people couldn’t join for free. The only way to ‘organise’ content, if you can call it organising, was with tags. Overall, Patreon just didn’t do what I wanted it to do.
So I moved to Ream. And Ream did offer solutions to those challenges, but there were downsides there too, and I never really fit with their vision. Community engagement was awkward, and the whole point of this for me is to better engage with you, the reader.
Well, I thought, you know what? I’ll MAKE MY OWN. From scratch. With WordPress, which I know just enough about to get myself into a lot of trouble. Trouble I can usually get out of with enough time and patience, but when you’re trying to write books and make art, time and patience are precious commodities.
Still, I persevered. I built the thing. Tested it. It worked. It did most of what I wanted it to do. Soon, I told you. It’s nearly ready.
And then I sat on it. For weeks, drifting into months. I couldn’t bring myself to push the big red button and say ‘COME, BEHOLD THIS GLORIOUS THING I HAVE MADE’.
I finally realised why: all the technical support would be on me. What if someone couldn’t sign up? What if a payment went wrong? What if the posts went wonky or a password reset didn’t work or or or –
You get the idea.
Maybe nothing goes wrong, but only one thing needs to for the whole enterprise to fall over because if I’m spending time helping people reset their passwords, I’m not writing books. And then what are we all here for?
So I’m back on Patreon. I feel mixed: relief at not having to keep the entire ship floating by myself. Sadness that I’m not using my own platform where I have ultimate control over how it all works. One day, I’d like to go back to my patron system, but the year when I hope to finish not one but two ongoing series is not that year.
All right. What can you expect, then, on this Patreon? Why join, and all that jazz?
Fantastic Foxes
BOOKS! Obviously. All members at the Fantastic Fox tier (US$5/month) get:
bonus stories and scenes
any Kickstarter/BackerKit bonus material following the campaign exclusivity period
a pre-release epub of new releases
This is the place to be if you want to make sure you NEVER MISS A THING. With the exception of published books (which you’ll get in pre-release if your membership is active at the time), I will put EVERYTHING here. Deleted scenes, chats with characters, bonus stories, even early access to some of my Lightless side-quest novellas.
For an added bonus, the first 50 members to sign up as Fantastic Foxes get their first month free!
What was that about art? Fabulous Foxes
We could all use a little more real art in the world. Indeed, with the proliferation of AI junk, human-made creations have never been more important. So as a Fabulous Fox (US$30/month), you get all the Fantastic perks, plus an original art package mailed to you four times a year!
Think authentic greeting cards, pretty bookmarks, little pieces you can use to decorate a nook in the house. Or gift them, scrapbook with them, stick them up in your office – whatever makes you happy! All hand-painted by yours truly.
What about free Foxes?
Free foxes get treats too! Honestly, I just want to play. I’ll probably share pictures of my latest art pieces and snippets of writing works in progress, but we’ll see! It’ll be fun, whatever it is. Cats, maybe. Comics, even!
If any of this sounds good, visit patreon.com/kelefox and join the tier of your choosing (free is welcome). And don’t forget the Fantastic Fox first-month-free offer until the end of Feb, for the first 50 patrons!
Fox, you said more romance. Gimme gimme gimme
(a man after midnight)
It’s the Fantasy Romance Society Book Blast!
Another World’s Stars is one among many; go check them out!
All right. I’m done for the day. I hope to see you over on Patreon, I hope you pick up lots of fabulous new books, and above all, I hope you have some joy in your week!
Read and be weird,
Kel
